8ª Unidad Didáctica (8th Topic) es: INVENTIONS

In this unit we are going to learn about inventions and discoveries.

-     A DISCOVERY is when we find something that existed before but we did not know about it.

For example, the fire

-     An INVENTION is when we create something that did not exist.

For example, the computer, television and cars.

VOCABULARY:

 Rocket

Microscope

Telescope

Light bulb

Wheel  

Listen to these two songs carefully.

Here we´ll learn about inventors and their inventions.

Johannes Gutenberg invented the Printing press.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone.

Mr. Benz invented the automobile.

Mr. Fulton invented the steamboat.

Mr. Edison invented the projector and the light bulb.

Mr. Baird invented the TV

The Wright brothers invented the aeroplane.

EL SUJETO Y EL PREDICADO

Las oraciones están formadas por dos partes:

• El sujeto: nos indica quién o quiénes realizan la acción.
• El predicado: nos indica qué acción o acciones realizan.

We need tools and machines to work.

Tools and machines help people to make things more quickly.

Tools are small and they use energy from people (human energy).

Examples:

 Hammer

  Scissors.

Machines are big and they need different types of energy:

- The Sun : a solar clock

- Wind: a windmill

- Electricity: a lamp

- Petrol: a car

- Gas: a gas cooker

Examples:

Computer

  

Microwave oven

We can find machines:

In the street: Traffic lights, street lights, cars ...

At home: DVD, Playstations, mobile phones, lamps, microwave ovens, washing machines...

At school: computers, smartboards, CD players...

MATERIALS

There are a lot of different types of materials: 

Metal: Nails are made of metal.

              






Paper: A notebook is made of paper.  

                







Glass: A window is made of glass.

           




Wood: A door is made of wood.  

        






Fabric: A T-shirt is made of fabric.

   






Plastic: A bottle is made of plastic.
